To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Australia, the Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Brisbane will launch a "When Koala Meets Panda" 2017 China-Australia Youth Short Video Contest. This contest encourages Australian youth in Queensland to share their perspective and understanding of China through their social media platforms.

Regarding the contest's title, "Koala" represents Australian youths while "Panda" symbolises Chinese elements. Thus, this event will not only enhance the connection between China and Australia, but also promote Australia's understanding of China and Chinese culture.

The contest officially launched on October 1, 2017, and participants will be able to upload their short videos via their social media platforms by December 10, 2017. 40 finalists will be selected by People's  Daily Online Australia and then 4 individual awards will be selected by professional judges. Finally, through views on Chinese social media platforms, the final award, "Most Popular in China" Award, will be selected and winners will be invited to China for a 1-week cultural exchange trip.

The event is hosted by the Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Brisbane, organised by People's Daily Online Australia and supported by University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University and Study Queensland.
